Named for Dzamandzar on Nosy-Be island, northwest of the mainland of Madagascar, Dzama rum is made from molasses grown on the island. The sugar mill was imported from Brazil in the 1930s and has since been upgraded to produce sugar and rum. Today, Dzama rum is the largest selling rum on Madagascar and is positioned enter the international market.
