Hampden Estate

Jamaica

One of only two surviving distilleries in Trelawny parish where more than 100 sugar estates once flourished. Known for its high ester rum which is mostly sold to Europe where it is blended with other rums, Hampden Estate continues to make rum from molasses from the sugar mill on the property. The Hampden Distillery was sold to the Hussey family in 2010 as part of the Jamaican government divesture. Neglected for many years, this distillery consinues to operate and is working hard to improve production. A new still has been installed as well as monitoring equipment to improve quality control.
