Default Statement of Origin Question

Hello Rum Lovers ! I have a question regarding Statement of Origin pertaining to USA - TTB Labeling laws: Lets say a Rum Spirit is Distilled in Puerto Rico but shipped, Aged and Bottled elsewhere in the continental USA. Could you make a Labele statement of origin as "Puerto Rican Rum" for example?

Thanks !

If it is distilled in Puerto Rico it must be aged at least one year in order for it to be considered a product of Puerto Rico.

If it were aged in another location, then the rum must state that as where it is produced. "Produced and bottled in _______." But the statement could be specific, such as "distilled in PR, aged and bottled in ______."

Having said that, How much of an affect if any would Captain Morgan's new label have on sales when is it changed to read rum rom the US Virgin Islands.

BTW, with this move would St. Croix now be the rum capitol of the world? After all it would now have the #2 and #4 best selling rums in the world distilled on its tiny shore? I am pretty shore that the PR has trademarked that name however....

Thank you all for your responses. So does the same hold true for other countries, for example if distilled in Jamacia but aged and bottled in Minnesota for example? Could one then claim Jamacian Rum in the US Market?

As an example, until recently Bacardi 8 rum was distilled and aged in the Bahamas. The label reads "Produce of the Bahamas, bottled in San Juan, PR."

I believe a Stateside ageing and bottling facility could claim "Jamaican rum aged and bottled in the State of XXX", as angelsword has so well said.
