Default Best rum for eggnog

Christmas is just around the corner, and so eggnog is about to rise from the shadows once again.
So the question is: what are your favourite rum to use for a homemade eggnog-recipe?
Last year I tried with Bacardi Black...I won't try that again, that's for sure.

Cruzan Black Strap adds a wonderful flavor. Montecristo Spiced is one of the best. Atlantico, Viscaya and Cubaney all have a wonderful spicy finish that goes well with eggnog. A blend of rums is probably the best choice, including an over-proof to add some serious kick.

"Homemade" = nog from the grocery store and some Sailor Jerry or Foursquare (if i have it) and for a more mellow drink.. Lambs Navy.

I like a store bought egg nog, with Cockspur rum, or if nothing else, we always have Mt. Gay extra old, but it's sort of a shame to put that in.
But to top it off, a block of frozen vanilla ice cream is good!

Robin and I are volunteering to man the eggnog both at the annual Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Holiday Party Thursday evening for about 500 people. We're spiking the rich mixture with Diplomatico Anejo and Matusalem Platino, but we're keeping several bottles of special rum nearby for special people, including Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, Cubaney 15, Atlantico and Zacapa 23. Happy Holidays!

if its for eggnog...I usually don't use an expensive or premium rum....Captain Morgan spiced or even Gosling's Gold will suffice...

Speaking of Captain Morgan....I saw a bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced rum at 50% ABV in Bellingham today. That should add some pep to anyone's eggnog.

Didn't buy it as my wife wanted to get some wine for upcoming family holiday dinners.....

I am not a big fan of Egg Nog, but last year I was gifted some, so I tried it with Foursquare and then a change to Sailor Jerry and it really was quite good.

I'm not an egg nog guy either, but I was told Ponce Kuba makes a good one. Maybe I will try a shot maybe spiked with some Kweyol Spiced Rum.

I would suggest Black Seal or Sailor Jerry. The SJ has a real nice flavor of subtle cherry, vanilla and spice. One of the better spiced rums available (along with Four Square)

I don't usually mix my best rums with egg nog for the punch bowl, but like Rob I usually keep a bit of egg nog on the side for those who appreciate better rums.
