Would they sail 5,000 miles for bad rum?
Hi all you with the nice interest. I have read about a rum from New Foundland, Screech is the name of the rum. It seems like the way it got made is not really the regular way, have any of you had the opportunity to try this one out?

The other question is, very can I lay my hands on a bottle, and try it out myself?
Wish me luck...

Screech gets some bad press, but is a fairly good rum. It can be drunk straight, but would be better in a cocktail where you need some flavour and colour from the rum. It has similarities to a dark British navy rum. I get mine from colleagues who go home to Canada, not sure where you can buy it on-line. I got 3 bottles of Lamb's rum from Canada this week. The Navy, the White and the Palm Breeze Amber. Can't wait to try them.

I have a Canadian friend who promises to bring me a bottle after the next trip.

Screech also gets some pretty good press. I would rather drink it neat than mix it with anything. Here you can read my review that I wrote a while ago. I would recommend trying it Satriani.

Well, perhaps after several days at sea, even the Screech was acceptable for the scurvy-ridden sailors...
Me myself finds the Screech a treat. Certainly not the smoothest rum around, a bit rough in the edges, but very fitting after a rainy day at sea.
I see that you are located in Sweden. send me a private message, and I can help you out with a small taste... Have a micro-bottle (50ml) that I can part from.

That Screech rum is actually sold here in Quebec, but I never had the urge to try it. I may be wrong, but Newfoundland and sugar cane never looked appealing to me. And hearing that it can't really be drank on the rocks doesn't help either.

I had a gentleman come in to the bar driving down from the Adirondacks on his way back to WV. He stopped in and had two bottles of Screech. I was offering a trade for a bottle out of sheer curiosity, but he wasn't willing to give it up. I suppose Ill contact the importer and try and get it into PA.
