Ihave found the 10 cane lacking in depth overall. Good clear mixer, but not much of a go to pour. The Mt Gay (any version) makes a nicer sipper.

Oranoco is not bad either, just not another big hitter on my sipping list...

I stumbled into a store that is selling Oronoco for $13 a bottle...at this price it is a good sipper, but for some reason I still prefer thr unrefined raw rum taste of the 10Cane but that is running about $26 a bottle....

I have been trying to find this elusive rum, as its mammoth reputation seems to proceed it. I would love to know where one may find it? I'm wondering if it has already been released in California. Where did you purchase yours, if I may ask?

Many thanks,
Nancy

If you can remember the name of the store, how about mentioning it in the Deals and Discounts area of the forum. That definitely sounds like a deal.

I'm a fan of Oronnoco. It costs $15 around here (NJ), and it's very good for mixing cocktails -- it adds nice agricole vapor to make a drink a little more interesting. As for sipping, I like it, but because of the lightness and vanilla essence, I don't prefer it over my other dark faves (barbancourt, pampero, angosturra, el dorado). I think if it were a touch lighter on the vanilla, I'd like it even more.

I would second the Diplomatico Ron Blanco. By far the most sippingest white I've ever had. As far as I know, it's STILL not available in the states. It was a big hit at the NY Ministry of Rum festival..

Default Oronoco Vs. The World

Though I admit I'm wet behind the ears when it comes to Rum tasting. I do agree that so far Oronoco is an amazing White rum. I am very interested to get ahold of some Diplomatico Ron Blanco. If its not in the states I'll just have to import it. I have a friend who is not a big rum fan. Whiskey and Vodka's for him. He really liked Oronoco. He said "This is the first rum I didn't whince and choke back a little."

Welcome to the forums Frankee01.

Oronoco is a delightful rum and the Ron Diplomatico Blanco is in a class by itself in my opinion.

Please pop over to the Introductions Forum here when you get the chance and tell us a bit about yourself.
