20 years ago in 2000, the Roig sugar factory in Yabucoa and the Coloso factory in Aguada, not far from where the first sugar cane had been brought to the island 385 years before, closed.

Default El Dorado 8-yr Rum

Now available in the United States, and a very welcome addition to the El Dorado family of great rums.

I've been fortunate enough to have already tried this rum, and it occupies a nice niche between their 5-year and 12-year rums.

I'd have to say that this situation reminds me a little bit of the Flor de Cana lineup; the 5-year is the punch rum, the fantastic mixer, and the 7-year FDC and 8-year El Dorado are your sipping rums, just a bit more affordable than both companies 12-year rums.

I bought a bottle while driving through New Brunswick, but I did not open it yet. To give you a point of reference, ED5 is selling for 26.99, ED12 for 33.99 and ED8 for 29.99.

You should have sent me a message. We could have met up somewhere to have a drink or two!

Thanks for the invitation Patapouf, but I know you're based in Moncton, and I stayed in Edmundston, which is not exactly a few miles away. Maybe another time!

When I go to the Gaspe Bay, I sometimes take the Rivière-du-Loup - Edmundston - Campbellton route, there is less traffic.

Joe can you describe the bottle. I believe that I may have this one very recently. a buddy brough a bottle back from Guyana and he said it was 8 years old. The Label was missing except for a XO and the warning label. If this was what I had, its a great rum.

Heading home for a sip of homemade lemonade and Cruzan 2 year old.

Hi Gecko,

If you're familiar with the new 5yrs design, it's basically the same bottle.

No problemo! I didn't know there was any traffic that far North in Québec

Hope you had a great vacation. It's beautiful up there.

What I mean by traffic is a car that drives 50 but that you can't double up for miles!
