Thanks for starting this new thread. Since Zaya is my first entry into fine rum I am bummed that it may be changed or retired.

As was mentioned in a couple of other threads, Diageo took over distribution of Zacapa, and the private labels bottled by Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala, including Zaya and Montecristo, may have to find other sources of rum. It may be worth noting that Montecristo is still pictured under the heading "Maquila" in the section "Spirits, Rums in Bulk and Maquila" on the Industrias web site.

There is also conjecture that Diageo may effect a change in the Zacapa lineup, so fans of Centenario 23 and XO, et al, should take note. I have no idea how this affects Casa Botran.

What I would like to know is if this is actually going to happen and when. I assume the Zaya that is on the shelves now is unchanged.

It's funny this came up as I recently tried Zaya and immediately started a search to find a bottle. I live in Minneapolis which isn't a market like Chicago but by no means a little podunk town. I couldn't find it anywhere...every liquor store said they are waiting for a shipment. Could this be the end? I hope not as this stuff is incredible.

I do believe Diageo only purchased the distribution rights with an option to purchase the company in 2 years. If this were the case, I wouldnt expect to see Zaya and Montecristo disappear or change sources until then.

I've not verified with the company Infinum Spirits, but I've heard from two very reliable sources that Zaya received their last shipments from Guatemala not long ago.

Thanks Robert. Looks like I have to pick up some more Zaya to stash away.

That's not good...I'm contemplating spending close to $50 a bottle at a liquor store that has 5 left...I hate to patronize gougers though.
