Talking Appleton Reserve

hi, finally joined up to this after reading the posts over the past year. just wondered if anybody has any information on the bottle of Appleton Reserve i have been recently given. it's the same bottle layout as the VX which we get in england, except it says Reserve on the little round label instead of VX. is it the same thing?

Welcome to the Ministry of Rum forums.

Nice friends you have to give you a bottle of Appleton Reserve which is an older blend than their VX rum.

I really like the Reserve. Much more body and flavors than the VX, though the VX is very good as well.

Appleton Reserve has a high ester rum flavor in addition to the oak aged flavor found in the VX. Great stuff!

Reserve is their 8-12 year old blend. Very very nice and not released yet in the UK.

You have generous and well connected or travelled friends

the most drinkable of the affordable Appleton Estate rums is the Reserve, a blend of some 20 rums in the 8 to 12 year old range. Very respectable, won't break the bank. Makes a great cocktail; good on the rocks.

Appleton reminds me of the big blended scotch names except they only blend from their own stocks.

That would be the equivalent of a single malt, meaning blended from within a single distillery. Single malt does not mean single barrel.
When the blend is from within a single distillery maybe it should be called single ???cane???

That's a concept worth considering.
