Default Rum Neophyte Seeking Enlightenment

Hello, All –

After visiting the Ministry on many occasions over the past years, I finally decided to take the plunge and register for the forums. I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I’m woefully uneducated in regard to this Noble Spirit, but I’ve just returned from the liquor store after stocking up for my seasonal exploration and I’m determined to expand my horizons. My favorites of late have been Pyrat XO and Zaya, and I’m hoping that the wealth of knowledge here will enable me to learn about some of the better varieties. Unfortunately, my local purchase options are pretty limited here in the Red Dirt Gulag of Oklahoma, but I’m hoping to discover some new sourcing options for some of the more esoteric labels. I’m looking forward to learning from all of you here, and hope you’ll be patient with the stupid questions and inane commentaries that I’m likely to generate.

Jim

Welcome to the forums. I'm confident you'll find some good information here and I'm confident that the rum selection in your area will improve. One of the things you can do is ask your local store manager to bring rums you know you like.

tell us what you think of the zaya, its vanilla smoothness is a smooth sipper.

I'll try to make a note of my impressions once I open the new bottle. Sadly, my palate is rather uneducated...I'm still at the point where I have difficulty distinguishing the subtle nuances of various labels. Hopefully my dabblings in this forum will help remedy my lack of discernment.
