Hello from LMDW Fine Spirits in Paris!
Hello everyone! My name's Nick and I've known about the Ministry of Rum for quite a while now, but have only just got round to signing up. I'm actually from Scotland, but have been working in Paris for the past four years for a company called La Maison du Whisky (their spirits arm is LMDW Fine Spirits) where I am the Content Manager i.e. the person who manages photos, text and all other product-related information and media. I am specialised in the alcohols of Japan - I studied Japanese at university and live there for a while - and look after our portfolio of sake, shochu, awamori and liqueurs as well as Japanese rum (yes, it exists!) - but am also a big fan of rum, and really interested in the rums of Demerara. At the moment my favourite rums are:
- Savanna, a distillery on the French island of La Réunion which produces both agricole and "traditional" styles
- the independant bottlings of Velier, a rum-specialist in Italy, best known for his cask-strength single cask versions of Caroni, but also his Demeraras (I'm currently on an Enmore 1995, bottled in 2010 at 61.2%!)
- Rhumrhum, a rhum agricole distilled on Marie-Galante by Gianni Capovilla in two specially made stills inside the Biele distillery
- the independant bottlings of Berry Bros & Rudd, their Jamaica 1990 from Hampden in particular.
I also quite like a number of cachaças:
- Colonial Brasil (we're fortunate enough to have some stock left)
- Engenho da Vertente
- Abelha, organic cachaça developped by a small company in England
Anyway, I'm really happy to be on the forum now and can't wait to get to you know you all better and start learning!
Nick
