Default Ron Matusalem

Who here is a Ron Matusalem fan? I personally think their portfolio is outstanding and possibly a bit under-rated. If you get a chance, I highly recommend the Gran Reserva. Excellent rum. It runs about $35 bucks a fifth in Michigan, probably a bit less in non-control states.

Love me some Gran Reserva. They also have a new product I saw a few weeks ago at my local store. I think it was an 18yo. I'll be picking it up on my next visit I also thought. I saw an anejo labeled bottle once.

Average rum at best ..... at the price point it's a daily drinker at best, better offerings are abound .

Love all the Ron Matusalem portfolio. They have just released a 23YO for the European market. This one is exceptional. Hopefully it will be more widely available soon as shipping it from Italy is expensive!!! I was lucky to be able to visit the facility in Santiago, Dominican Republic where the rum is aged and bottled recently. A very interesting tour. The aging warehouses were very unique.

I really enjoy the Gran Reserva as well. Smooth, pleasant, contemplative flavor.

Love Ron Matusalem Gran Reserva and Classico. With summer just around the corner, its time for lighter Cuban style rum.

I do like the Gran Reserva, but having been to Cuba and tasted/brought back multiple rums from the Mulata and Santiago de Cuba (among others) portfolios I personally don't see how Matusalem can be called a "Cuban" rum. While it may have been at one tine, I certainly don't think it is now. I don't mean to be a troll, but I think the Matusalem is a good Spanish style rum that's lost its Cuban roots.

As someone who enjoys Cuban rum in the Caribbean, I tend to agree with you Jason. There is a lot of discussion about Cuban style rums on these pages and I view the Cuban claims as being much more marketing than substance.
