Default Demerara Rankings

In order to check this I tasted over 12 different rums. Oh the pain! How much I endure just to be able to post intelligently, albeit a bit drunkenly now. But since we all have different ways of seeing things...

Size of Nose:
1) Sea Wynde
2) Pusser's Blue
3) Murray McDavid Guyana 13
4) Plantation Guyana 1990
5) El Dorado 12

Big Flavor:
1) Pusser's Blue
2) Plantation Guyana 1990
3) El Dorado 21
4) Sea Wynde
5) Pusser's 15

Sweetest:
1) El Dorado 12
2) El Dorado 15
3) Pusser's 15
4) El Dorado 21
5) C

Breadth and Balance:
1) Murray McDavid Guyana 13
2)El Dorado 21
3) Pusser's 15
4) Pusser's Blue
5) Plantation Guyana 1990

My Top Five:
1) Plantation Guyana 1990
2) Murray McDavid Guyana 13 Yr
3) Pusser's Blue
4) El Dorado 21
5) tie between El Dorado 15 and Pusser's 15

Yes that was a typo, but now I have no idea as to what the real answer was.

It's interesting to see you listed the Pusser's Blue in front of the ED 21.
I would like to try Plantation Guyana 1990 at some point. I like most of what I've tried of their line, even the lesser bottles.

Shame XM wasn't in the list. I would have loved to see how that faired...

That is a very informative tasting. It kindles my curiosity about Murray McDavid again. I found the same about Sea Wynde, the big nose that kind of disappoints after that.

A different evening might produce other results. This tasting was not about price or image. It was simply a matter of my preferences on one particular night of tasting. Whether not not I know enough to judge such a refined selection of rums is another question. These are ALL world class rums. What a joy to be able to throw them head to head!

Sea Wynde to me is an almost... that fails. There is just a hint too much of the funk. But it doesn't take much funk to really warp a flavor profile.
