Default Brinley Gold "Shipwreck" Spiced Rum

Finally got around to trying this over the weekend, and I can sum it up with one adjective: vanilla!

I didn't get to try it on the rocks, but it was very nice with chilled coconut water. I'm slightly disappointed in the 72-proof (personally, I believe that all rums ought to be at least a proper 80-proof) but I was impressed that they use rum aged 4 years.

I look forward to more experimentation with it.

good to hear Joe, thank you. anybody know if the 72 proof is from watering it down, from spices and extracts, or from "special flavoring"?

There was a reason for it, I read it in an interview that I can't find at the moment. I think it had something to do with the fact that they wanted to mellow the alcohol content keeping in mind drinking it straight. I forget, but it made sense when I read it.

that makes sense. When I think of the drinks that I enjoy on the rocks they are usually with a splash of coconut water, a rum cream, or with sugar added to make it into a liquer (creole shrubb). 72 on the rocks is still good by me, and brinley has always been reputable in my book.

I've tried several of the Brinley's flavored rums... coffee, vanilla, lime and I find them all very good if not bordering on syrupy. Hadn't seen this one yet, I'll have to try to find some! Oh, and I have found the Brinley's selling in the Nashville area for $9.99 a bottle! What a steal!

Nice score! I haven't had the opportunity to try the Shipwreck yet, but their Coconut and Mango flavored rums are exceptional,... on the rocks or mixed. With summer coming up and @ $10 a bottle, I'd be buying them by the case!

I hope that is a special price and not a closeout.

I saw the coconut, mango, and shipwreck last week for $17.99 each in Arkansas, so definitely not on closeout there.
