Greetings from London, England
Hi there,
I'm a long time reader but thought it was about time to register and become a bit more active in this great community you have here.
I'm relatively new to rum, re-discovering it you could say during a trip to Cuba in 2010. Since then my spirits cupboard has been completely revamped and currently has the following:
Havana Club Anejo Blanco (My favourite mixer)
Havana Club Barrel Proof (Lovely to sip and think of Cuban beaches)
Bacardi 8 Year old (Another nice sipper, one of the best Bacardi do in my opinion)
Legendario Elixir de Cuba (Lovely to sip after a nice meal)
Ron de Jeremy (Bought as a joke but it's surprisingly smooth)
Pyrat XO (Unopened as yet, i know it's an opinion divider but the sample I had at Rumfest 2011 was lovely)
I'm always on the lookout for rums I haven't tried (which is admittedly a lot but i'm working on it!), but my guilty secret is i'm easily swayed by a nice looking bottle, i know it's bad but i think it adds to the experience.
I'm also always looking for suggestions on recipes, my new years resolution for 2012 is going to be to be more adventurous with mixing my rums. Some of them i think i'm over precious with (like the Bacardi 8) that by adding a few extra ingredients could make for some stunning cocktails.
Best rum i've ever tried has to be the Appleton's 30 year old I was lucky enough to sample at Rumfest '11. Fantastic stuff but a full bottle is out of my price range.
My favourite Rum Bar in London has to be Trailer Happiness in Notting Hill, i've only visited once but i'm determined to join their Rum Club in 2012 as it looks like great fun. I drive my partner insane by examining every bar we go into and judging the place by how many different types of rum they have. Unfortunately she's not a rum lover (at least not yet!)
Well that's me, Thanks for having me!
