Default Jamaican Black

Just saw this one on EBay..does anyone know about this rum?
Black Jamaican Rum..looks good for tiki drinks..
But what I would like to know is whether this rum is barrel aged or just a lot of caramel?

Default a lot of caramel

Even if it is aged for some decent interval, the deep color and some of the flavor almost surely comes from caramel.

I'm a big fan of Coruba dark from Jamaica and Cruzan Black Strap from the US Virgin Isles for that deep, rich, full-bodied, rich flavored rum.

if you get a bottle of that Black Jamaican, let us know if it's worthy.

The cheap price (euro 19) tells me its a lot of caramel..but still it could be good in tiki drinks..so I had to give it a try and so i bought it. When it has arrived and is tried Iґll tell you what I think.
I have also bought a Coruba dark which I know is good. The Cruzan blackstrap I`ve never been able to try yet, seems hard to find in Europe.

Got it today
It has a very thick, dark taste of burnt sugar and molasses..not a rum to sip IMO but good for tiki drinks and as a floater. It is quite yummy..
Just made a sort of evening drink with it and its nice.(Appleton VX,Jamaica Black,Mango juice, Lime Juice, Passion fruit juice, Falernum and some bitters)
But i wouldn`t use it in a Mai Tai though..its just not the right kind of rum for that drink, but it will be very nice in some tiki drinks. Have to go and read from the real recipes tomorrow.. I think it was worth the money, and it was not expensive, euro 17.

I don't know of any rum which the color can be called black that hasn't been colored with caramel. There's a difference in the color of molasses/caramel coloring and barrel aging.

Often the bottles are colored, which also gives the impression that the rum is much darker than it really is.

I'm jealous that it's cocktail time already in some parts of the world and I've still got work to do. It won't be cocktail time here for at least another hour.

But maybe you can shorten that hour just a little...? say 15 mins? or just forget about that hour and work on and suddenly its cocktail time! by that time its time for me to have a go-to-bed-sipping-rum..think I will choose Zacapa23 today..

Well this Jamaica Black rum is surely a lot of caramel..and your`e right, the bottle is dark..
