Default New Coruba Bottle

Three to four weeks ago I picked up a bottle of Coruba dark and decided to give it a try. I found it very enjoyable for the price and knew I would buy it again.

Well I was in the store and bought another bottle and it was the redesigned bottle. After tasting it I've come to the conclusion that they have changed the blend. Where the old bottle had that caramel taste and heavy mouth feel the new bottle seems watered down and bland.

I'd just thought I'd share my opinions with everyone. Here is a pic I took of the new bottle

I haven't tried any from the new bottles yet. Looks like I'll have to do a side-by-side blind tasting and see if there's a change.

I'll be very, very disappointed if there's a difference in the rum.

I do know that I don't particularly care for the new labels.

I've tried hunting down some bottles of the old stuff in my area...no dice. I assume the Coruba reps came in and switched the stock.

I really wanted to do a side by side. While mixing a cocktail with the old stuff I spilled a drop on the counter and didn't noticed it till the morning. It was sticky like spilled molasses. I placed a drop of the new stuff on the counter and in the morning it was just a stain. Not scientific but...

On the plus side while looking for the old Coruba bottles I found a couple bottles of Cruzan Estate Diamond in a small store.

In addition to the new label, Wray & Nephew has also added a pineapple, coconut and mango flavored rum to the lineup. The flavors are bottled at 20% abv. I had an opportunity to taste the mango and have to say that it smells and tastes more like mango than some mangoes I've eaten. On the other hand it is a clear spirit.
