White Rums

Whether you call them, clear, silver, white or simple 'see through' how do you drink them?

Unhappy Rancid Tasting Bacardi Superior

Has anyone else been having problems with buying rancid tasting Bacardi Supperior? I have been drinking it for over 20 years and in the last 8 months I have gotten at least 19 bad 1.75 liter bottles. I am seriously thinking about changing brands and wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums Civile1.

My experience with Bacardi Superior has been a much more positive one over the past two years. I only buy it in 750ml so I cannot speak to the 1.75 issues you are experiencing. Bacardi has been working hard on the flavor profile of this product and for me it is much better than it was just a short time ago.

It may be possible that there are bad storage conditions at your retail or wholesale level, rather than quality control issues stemming from the distillery.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for your comment. I have been in contact with Bacardi and they have picked up some of my bottles and haven't told me what they have found out. I have purchased the bottles at several different retailers so I don't know if it is a storage problem or not. If you have any suggestions on a new rum to try, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Since you are experiencing problems across retailers, then there may be a problem at the wholesaler level.

Please keep us updated if the Bacardi Rep gets back to you.

Since I don't know what selections of clear rum you have available in your area, I'll leave it for other members with local knowledge to recommend.

For me, Bacardi Superior is a pretty good rum. It is certainly not the swill I was led to believe it was. (I don't have a long history with it as do others on this forum.) I am quick to grab it when mixing light rum drinks.

Please keep us posted.

It is my belief, that without outside contamination, storage should not be an issue. For instance, if exposed to light or temperature cycling, it will lose taste, but not get rancid.

I find Bacardi to be okay when mixed, but when I taste it straight I almost want to vomit. To me it has always been rancid.

If available in your area you could look towards Don Q Cristal. I think you'll like the price, quality, and flavor profile.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. It has been very helpful! It has just been a very frustrating few months and I am ready to say "UNCLE". Of course I will let everyone know what I find out, if they will even tell me.

My husband bought some Seagrams last night. I didn't really like it. He thought it was okay. I am going to Friar Tuck today and check out what they have.

Thanks for everything and I appreciate all of your help!

Please know that I am not being glib or trying to be funny.

I am curious. Did you change any medication around the time that the Bacardi's profile changed? Have you had any head trauma?

I ask this because I have friends that went through something similar regarding their sense of taste.

Please forgive my impertinence.
