Default Is using a 12+ yo rum on cocktail a waste?

Jst used FDC 12 for a cocktail, I actually found it taste a lot better than using FDC 7 on the same cocktail....
What you guys think on using well aged rum on cocktail rather than a sipper?

I do it all the time. The better the rum, the better the cocktail!

My opinion is that you can do whatever you want with a rum you bought. It´s yours!
If you think that it would be nice in a cocktail, mix it! If you think that it´s a waste of the rum to mix it, then stick to just sipping it.

I say if you like it, use it!

(similar to cooking wine... you can use the crap sold as "cooking wine" or you can just cook with actual wine)

Im with Arctic Wolf on that. You can get alot more flavor, and with that alot more enjoyment of your cocktail by using some of the good stuff.

It's like cooking with quality ingredients, for a better result. I've commonly used Mount Gay XO for cocktails.

It spent 12 years in a barrel. The last thing it wants to see is the inside of a blender.

In the 60's we used to say, "If it feels good, do it."
