I would not class Barbancourt as an agricole, as it is made from sugar cane syrup and not sugar cane juice. The company certainly doesn't claim that any of their rums are agricoles.

As a benchmark I have 2 other agricoles - Saint James Amber & Trois Rivera Blanc. I don't enjoy the aftertaste of Saint James Amber but I enjoy the funk of the Trois Rivieres Blanc, Im looking for neither in my next purchase (e.g. I like less after taste, less funk but still some, more rich flavours).
It's generally well reviewed but wonder how many people rate it based my comments above & as a top self mixing rum / rhum for tiki drinks / traditional recipes / sipping?

I drink it over a couple of ice cubes. Like it a lot.

Cheers gents!
I had heard that Barbancourt isnt strictly an agricole, I hoping for more of a comparison:
Whats it like? Agricole like in taste? Cuban in taste? Scotch like in taste?

It does not taste like any agricoles I've had. I really can't compare it to anything, it stands on its own for me. Wish I could be more specific with flavor profile. It was my entry into higher end rums so I've been drinking it for a long time. I will always have a bottle on hand, I like it that much.

Even if you can't describe it, that's a good endorsement!

It's one of my favorites and I try to always have some on hand.
I find it similar to an agricole but lighter and more mixable. Less 'flavor' than most agricoles, but arguably more balanced.
