Thumbs up Bundaberg Rum 125th Anniversary

Bundaberg Rum's 125th Anniversary is coming up on the 22nd November 2013. Thought I would share a pic of what they have in store:

"The Bundaberg 125th Anniversary Rum contains a unique blend of our oldest and rarest rums up to 35 years old. This incredible rum is layered with delicate hints of honey, caramel, spice and a long smooth finish. It will be available in two sizes, 700mL and 125mL, from 23rd November.

Our 700mL edition features an exquisite crystal decanter, two stunning crystal tumblers and a handcrafted walnut wooden casing, while our 125mL bottle is set in a striking cherry wood frame.

This monumental rum will be available on the 23rd November. 700mL bottle will be available first from the Bondstore and then selected retailers for $1,250. The 125mL bottle will be available from the Bondstore for $125."

You can find more info on the Bundaberg Rum Showcase website.

Additionally, BDC are also releasing on the 19th of this month their latest Master Distillers Collection creation, "Two Eighty"

Can also find more out about this one if interested on the Bundy Showcase website.

Cheers!

Nice packaging. Too bad it's got Bundy rum inside.

damn.. can't believe they're releasing it so close to the mdc 280... to think I'm a huge fan of the mdc collection, with phil larsen, rick prosser, and others handling it and all

Thought I would share the first official photo to surface of the 125th bottle. It is on an advert for the BDC upcoming Megafactories episode.

Oh yes, and last night we were given permission to reveal some more about this release:

Bringing this exceptional liquid to life, the bottle features uncompromising detail including a metal collar and stopper with a hand-applied leather band. Each individually numbered crystal decanter is housed in a walnut wooden box, which also contains a set of two crystal tumblers - etched with the BDC logo. This fine piece of Australian history is rounded out with a hand-stitched leather booklet and a one of a kind copper ingot – the ingenious creation of melting down one of the BDC's distillation columns, which once distilled some of the liquids in this exceptional rum.

I'm sorry but the price is just ridiculous! There are rums around with a minimum age of 30 or 35 that cost a fraction of the price of this one, most of them coming from single barrels and closed down distilleries. I've even seen a 58 year old rum for roughly half this price.

Furthermore for AUD$1250 I'd expect to taste much more than just hints of honey, caramel and spice that pretty much make the basic notes of majority of the mainstream rums. (Is that all they could come up with?)

Again I am sorry but I am not a fan of hype marketing such as this. I am however interested in what is the minimum age of this rum and whether it is a column distilled or a copper distilled product and how much if any sugar there is per liter?

The price has certainly been the source of much discussion and debate in collecting circles. The leather bound book mentioned above will have details on the blend and will be happy to share when that becomes available

At the price, it will be interesting to see how long it takes for the 1888 bottles to "sell out".
