A google search brought up two opinions of Opthimus Rum on the site ronsdelmundo.com (translation by google):

"16-02-2008 Josep Freixas
I totally agree with Liborio. Rum OPTHIMUS 25 YEARS, is also for me the best rum that I provided in my life and I have taken "in situ" rums Cubans, Dominicans and Gautemaltecos aged. Barva by OPTHIMUS 25 YEARS. I would like to indicate to me in Barcelona where he was, I can find. I've looked at many specialty shops without result, QUILEZ, CORTY etc. ..

28-10-2007 Liborio Iron
I had the privilege of tasting at a meeting in Madrid entire range of rums OpthimuS from 15 years to 25 years and are without doubt the finest rums I have tried in my life. The OpthimuS 25 years is for me the best rum in the world. Very exceeding Zacapa 23, Havana Club 15, and 21 Barcelo Plantation."

Although I can't vouch for the reliability of those statements, it sounds like a good one.

Hi Tiare, the Opthimus 25 anos is the higher quality rum of Oliver & Oliver rum's selction (are also available 15,18,21 anos).
It's a 38% rum aged in bourbon barrel, dark cherry colour with a great and sophisticated bouquet, very sweet (honey), pleasant and complex with a long finish.
In my opinion it's too sweet but however it's a great example of spanish rum.

A 38% rum with that age statement (solera or otherwise) sounds strange.....

Does that mean that the Opthimus rums and the equally-aged Ron Cubaney line are the same (e.g. Opthimus 21 aсos and Ron Cubaney 21 aсos)?

Well, the declared intention of Oliver & Oliver was to create soft rum but with great quality. Obviously all the Opthimus rums are blend of young and old rums.

Yes the opthimus are really similar to Cubaney.
But in the Cubaney line there are also 5, 8 and 12 years.

In my experience, the Cubaney rums are high on my list of the most under-appreciated rums. The 12 and 15 are wonderful sippers. I'd horde the 18 and 21 if I could find them. Their flavor signature is unlike any other rum in the world; sweet, rich, exotic spice finish.

Even the Cubaney 3 year old white rum is exceptional.

We love the Ron Cubaney 12 year old, but have been unable to locate any of the 15, 18, 21 or 25 year old for U.S. sale. Is the 15 year old still a rarity in Florida Robert? We don't expect to chance upon a stash for $22 each, but would love to find it at a reasonable advance over the price paid for the 12 year old. It would be extraordinary to find bottles of the 18 and 21 year old, but even finding the 15 year old would be great at the moment.
