Default Good Grenadine

Looking for a Grenadine for tiki drinks like the zombie. Is Rose's grenadine OK or should I be using something else?

No, definitely not suitable. It's more like an artificial cherry syrup than a true pomegranate based grenadine. Stirrings is very good. Williams-Sonoma is the same product, I believe.

Just make it...

Cold process is 1 cup Pomegranate juice, 1 cup super fine sugar-- shake until clear. Let settle and repeat-- Simple. there are other very simple/ very good recipes out there and no need to compromise.

Default Trying to find grenadine in UK

Very few of the "grenadines" on the market in Britain actually contain any real pomegranate juice.

"Monin" actually make two different products - one is called "grenadine syrup" and the other one is called "pomegranate syrup". The former doesn't contain any pomegranate juice and costs £3.99 (a bottle) at Waitrose or J Lewis Food Hall, while the latter does but is very difficult to find and considerably more expensive. (I have a feeling that it can be obtained from Speciality Drinks/Whisky Exchange.)

Fee Brother's American Beauty Grenadine is a useful grenadine, but keep your eyes peeled for a grenadine syrup to be released by Blair Reynolds at Trader Tiki sometime soon.

I posted a recipe that I saw a couple weeks ago on Good Eats. Alton Brown showed how to make grenadine and also what he called pomegranate molasses.

This is really the way to go for grenadine. I usually heat up some POM juice and reduce it by 1/3 or even 1/2 to thicken it up, add an equal amount of sugar to the amount of reduced juice and a few drops of orange flower water. Really simple, and really good - especially in a '34 Zombie.

By all means avoid Rose's grenadine.

I also agree on making your own. I add a splash of vodka to the bottle as well, to you can get some additional shelf life from it.

Thanks guys...

This is really easy to make unlike orgeat.

I added a little Wray & Nephew Overproof as most recipes only ask for small amounts of grenadine si it might sit for awhile.

I prefer the reduced hot processed fresh juice pomegranate. I use the Stirrings when I am out of the good stuff (currently) being in the bay area we got fresh made pomegranate juice at the farmers market, and reduced it down with sugar...yummy.
