We must all make a pilgrimage to the NOSE in Berlin. It's a very special place for people who appreciate fine spirits and Kristina has a passion for her work that is infectious.

Berlin is fantastic. My wife lived in Prenzlauerburg for 6 years. I visited there when almost all the apartments were still heated by big ceramic coal ovens. The whole neighborhood smelled of sulfur. Despite how primitive that might sound, I just loved it. That was about 14 years ago. Her friends tell us it has gentrified quite a bit.

I also played there before the wall came down - about 1986 or so. The day we played was the day of the Love Parade (which we thought was some sort of riot). I believe the name of the club was Metropol.

I will recommend Lotte Lenya or Ute Lemper to drink rum to.

You're lucky Ms. Nose - what a nice place to live.

As much as I love rum, I don't generally limit myself to it when enjoying an evening drinking at home. Luckily for us Brits we have some of the best beer in the world, and I must confess to loving beer just as much as I love rum. It's a different love of course, but one that's just as important to me.

So I usually start off with a bottle or two of real ale with dinner, or maybe a bottle of French or Spanish red if my girlfriend's round, before moving onto a mixed drink or cocktail once I've finished my meal. Mount Gay Eclipse and ginger ale is my current favourite, although I do vary it up.

Towards the end of the evening I head for the "top shelf" for some sipping action. My choice of rum at this point is of course dictated by my mood. On week-nights I often head for the Barbancourt 5 star, but on weekends I usually prefer something a little sweeter, such as Santa Teresa 1796 or Pampero Aniversario. If I'm feeling in a particularly good mood I'll get the Zacapas out, but that's not too often as they're pretty expensive in this part of the world!

Kristina you little German beauty!! How are you my darling?

Your tasting sounds fantastic. That spread of rums is fit for a king, not absolute beginners. I bet they leave with big grins plastered across their (rosy) faces.

I'm in the middle of a lot of Europe hopping but unfortunately not anywhere near Berlin. I'll have to make a special trip out there in the new year to take 'communion' at your holy room.
