Default Rum Heir's Stiff Shot

The NY Post certainly knows how to write a good headline!

You can almost always depend on the NY Post.

Interesting to me, is the three puns in the headline and photo......but not one in the text. Why is that?

Very unlike Alan Abelson of Barrons, who does the opposite, but I think he's the only one.......

My take is that it's all about the headline for the Post. I admit I'm not familiar with Barrons.

That's my take on the Post. But I only read it when it's been discarded on the NY subways.

Hello all, lurker til now, but couldn't resist this thread. Worked in the newspaper business many years ago and I do love a good headline. Of course this was in the day where, in general, the media were more dedicated to informing than to entertaining.

And I can tell you, newspaper writers do like their drinks (in my case good beer, and now rum). There's always a nice pub not far from the presses.

Actually the Bacardi article is pretty informative. An article about a very rich guy who refuses to pay alimony is a no brainer. Actually, my favorite headline of all time (and this was a real one in Ohio) was "Blind man fails to see oncoming bus". To this day I don't know if that was a mistake (it appeared in a legitimate city paper), but I still laugh about it...

Anyway, hello and have a stiff one on me.

Dewey beats Truman was a pretty good one, too.

Welcome Bill. Glad you finally decided to "throw one over the transom" as they say.

This may be urban legend, but an English friend once told me of a headline in the British "Sun" paper. Apparently a mental patient had escaped from the hospital and went on a rampage, raping some female attendants at a Laundromat, then fleeing. The headline...."Nut, Screws Washers and Bolts."
