Default Coconut Juice

I recently received a few cans of Amy and Brian Coconut Juice. Bottled in Thailand, this is a filtered water devoid of the chunks of young coconut meat found in Goya and some of the other brands I've had over the years.

I just looked at their website and it appears that they have two varieties of this coconut juice.

I'm told that it is currently being sold in Whole Foods in the US and a few other stores.

Has anyone else heard of this brand? It sure mixes well with light rums, reminds me of Trinidad where you can buy iced coconuts and just add rum.

The local co-op market by me here in Seattle (Madison Market in Capitol Hill, for those nearby) seems to always carry all three varieties, though my wife only buys them with pulp. For that reason and the fact that I'm not often in a coconut-y mood, I haven't actually used the juice for mixing, but my wife loves them swears they taste the most natural of any coconut juice she's had and she almost always has a few cans available. I'll have to convince her to buy the non-pulp kind next time.

I have seen this brand at my local Whole Foods...I may have a can in the cabinet.

Another brand that I buy from there is Vita Coco. It is good stuff too!

We tend to drink what we are used to and although I miss the variations found in fresh coconuts, this canned coconut juice hits the mark mixed with Old Oak rum from Trinidad, one of my favorite drinks when I was working on my boat there.

Can anybody reccomend a good style of rum to mix with coconut juice? Would it be more suited with a lighter, clear rum or a darker rum? I'm interested in this greatly because it sounds delicious

This is a tough question for me because I have only had coconut juice a few times. That being said every rum where I mixed the drink was outstanding. The ones i have personal experience with are as follows:
  • Appleton VX
  • Appleton Reserve
  • Flor de Cana 12yr
  • Mount Gay Eclipse
  • Mount Gay Extra Old
  • Mount Gay 1703

I'm looking forward to getting more, it may be nothing more than my personal love for coconut, but it is one of my favorite light mixing combinations.

Do you add lime juice? What are the typical proportions?

Old Oak from Trinidad = Royal Oak from Trinidad? (from Angosturra)

Old Oak and Royal Oak are two separate products, although both are made by Angostura. Royal Oak is aged longer than Old Oak.
