Have you ever aged bad or cheap rum?

Came across a white oak whisky stick on a distilling supply website and the idea crossed my mind.

Has anyone ever tried this? Were you satisfied with the results and would you do it again?

I use oak spirals for infusion and am very happy with the results. I had some horrible, horrible, moonshine and in 2 months it was an almost sippable liquor. They work pretty fast so you need to taste often. So now I use it on rums that IMO need a little help or just really benefit for a little more oak flavor.

I figured out what I'll do, I'll get three identical oak sticks, and then;

- Char one a bot more
- Store one in wine for a month
- Leave one as is

And then add each one to identical bottles of white rum and taste weekly.

Aging in the rum bottle? New sticks work pretty fast, I'd check in 4 days or so.

Most likely I'd use part of a stave from a barrel that was used for bourbon and then rum already. I'll try to find exactly how often it was used before and then post some pics here.
