Default Nassau Update

We are coming to the end of our family vacation/US visa renewal so thought I would report a quick update.
I met with our very own "Gecko" earlier in the week and was kindly taken to his house to sample some of the rums from his impressive collection. The highlight was tasting a large amount of the locally made Casa Bacardi 8YO. This is without a doubt the best Bacardi rum I have ever tasted (and I have tasted many!!) so smooth and sippable. I will have to try and track down some bottles of this. It was a very limited edition rum made in Nassau and has since long disappeared.
Later in the the day "Gecko" hosted myself and my family to a traditional Bahamian dinner along with his very talented wife and some close friends, including the pilot who flew is up to Nassau. More rums were sampled after dinner, as were many of the jellies and condiments that are produced by Gecko's wife. Truely a great day of rumming with a MoR member, not the first and I am sure not the last.
There are only really two liquor companies in the Bahamas right now so selection in the stores is fairly limited. A new rum due to arrive this week is called "Afro Head". Not very politically correct to say the least but will be interesting to see if it tastes any good.(doubtful) A smaller player in the market are Tortuga Rums and I purchased a bottle of their 12YO, well actually two as the first bottle is now history!! Originally from Guyana and heavy in caramel and fairly light in body. I also bought a variety pack of their flavoured rums. Cruzan Aged White Rum is also coming home along with Barton White Rum from the USVI via Chicago. I am probably going to pick up a couple of Havana Club rums if the rain from Tropical Storm Bonnie eases off enough to go shopping tomorrow!!
I had a meeting with the top hotel in Nassau who are looking to develop a rum program along with training a "Rumelier" who will be responsible for all things rum. This is an exciting program that will be fun to be part of.
Finally on Saturday I am honoured to be the special guest at a blind rum tasting at "Gecko's" dog house. This should be great fun, really looking forward to this special treat.
All in all a great week, even though our scheduled boat trip to the Exuma Cays was cancelled due to the bad weather. Thanks again to "Gecko" for a great day.

Rumelier I've added a new Album with photos of you and the Dog House gang. As Steven Bellot states, every guy should have a dog house.

PS We got a 1 - 0 victory over Bermuda, however they move on in the CFU qualifier. I'm 1 - 1 as a team manager

Great memories of a wonderful afternoon of rumming. Thanks very much for you and your family's hospitality, sorry we drank so much of your rums!! Hopefully you will make it down this way sometime so you can sample some of my collection.
Bad news here since I got back, import duty goes up by $40 a on rum next week, damn British government!!
Just in case people think we only drank Rubi Rey and Bacardi 8, these bottles actually contained different rums, the bottles were just to disguise the rums for the blind tasting.

Rumelier as our friends to the south would say no hay de que. There is still some much more where it came from.

Given the tax rise how does that effect the average bottle in T & C?
