Default Goslings Black Seal

WOW! This one is fantastic, never had a rum like this before, sweet, almost cherry note. The finish is not that long, but leaves a nice sweetness.

Cheers!

Oh yes, it is a fine rum indeed. Plus at $32 here in Victoria, you cant go wrong with a rum like that.

Cheers.

I'll be visiting Bermuda in May, and if my memory serves me correctly, Goslings is based out of Bermuda. I need to do some research and see what rums I'll be able to learn about while there!

If you like the Black Seal you should try Cruzan Black Strap. I find it more to my liking.

I cracked it open for the first time tonight and quite frankly, I'm undecided on it a sipper. Part of it is that it has a bouquet that I know I've smelt before and I can't figure out if it's an overly pleasant one. It's (among other things) citrus I think but what kind? This is also one that I find tastes exactly like it smells (something I'm finding that is often not the case as I continue my rum journey) and until I wrap my head around what I'm experiencing here, I'll probably remain undecided. This is one that I will need to go back later to and sip again for sure. I did however stop on the way home from work tonight and picked up some ginger beer and in the next day or two, will be giving the dark'n'stormy a go.

@wasatch - I didn't pick up the cherry like you did . It's close but not cherry, cherry like I found in the Diplomatico Reserva. Again, I just can't sort it out.

Anyway, maybe a wee snort in the morning will help. 'night folks.

I love the stuff but can't drink it as a sipper. I find it too harsh for that personally. It does however make an awesome dark 'n stormy!

I'm drinking my first dark'n'stormy as I type this. In fact, I've never had ginger beer until a few moments ago. - I made a point of trying the ginger beer on it's own first and man, it king of grabs you by the boo-boo, doesn't it? Anyway, together with the Black Seal, as most of you I'm sure are aware, is just fantastic. The sweet and the heat just balance each other out the right way. This lovely concoction is easily enough reason to always have the Black Seal on hand. I'm probably going to burn through these next summer.

I was planning to buy the Black Seal this week but went ahead and got the Gosling's Estate Old Rum since I am more of a sipper than a mixer. Holy crap, Gosling's Old Rum has jumped to being my current favorite....easy to drink, dry and not overly sweet, creamy in the mouth and what I'd imagine a rum should taste like. The online reviews are correct, so check it out. I will get a bottle of Black Seal anyway to satisfy my curiosity.

Default Goslings Old Estate

Is the Old Estate by Goslings a black rum as well? How does it compare price-wise to regular Black Seal? Is it strictly a sipper or a mixer as well?
