Silver Seal Pure Demerara Rum 1992

I have received my first Silver Seal pure demerara 15 years from Roberto and i must say that this is a real nice demerara with the typical very rich demerara taste and this one also has bit of a bite due to the 55%.

Its distilled 1992 and bottled 2007 by Diamond distillery.

It came with the blue parrot pictured label, very nice.

Banks XO has a more round toffee like flavor while this one has more bite. And compared to El D15 its about the samt thing, with the difference that i still hold El D15 as my top fav rum over all rums which i have done for maybe 15 years now.

But this rum i can easily recommend to buy if you like demerara rums. Its definetily going to be a staple in my home bar, if available long enough?

Its a outstanding sipping rum! it has wonderful medium dark amber color...and paired with some Toscano Black Amedei 70% chocolate....mmmm....

And i believe this one would make a outstanding Mai Tai as well...

This rum sounds great - unfortunately my selection around here is pretty limited... I did pick up a bottle of ED 12 while on vacation and love it. I am anxious to try the 15 after so many great reviews and praise.

While visiting a store the other day I saw they now had some bottles of the Lemon Hart demerara, both reg and 151. How are these demerara rums for those who have tried them?

If i was you i would go and get them both! the LH reg (have only tried the Jamaican reg) is a wonderful mixer and the 151 demerara is even more wonderful..both as mixer and float. The 151 has a rich demerara taste. But the reg LH you can get, is it the Demerara or the Jamaican?

If its the demerara i believe it will have the same rich demerara taste as the 151 but of course much less strong.

It is the regular (80 proof, I think) demerara, and the 151 demerara! I have not seen the LH Jamaican around here!

What, Tiare, you have not tried the LH reg demerara - I am shocked!:eek:

No i haven`t... i can only find the Jamaican LH rums and the 151 demerara..

The Lemon Hart Demerara 80 proof is not bad, but nothing to scream about IMHO. I understand the 151 is a powerhouse as a floater in cocktails. I must say the price point on the 80 is good though.

Tried that now..my goodness..what a Mai Tai you get with this rum... best i`ve had so far..its outstanding!

Its really a sipping rum..but i just had to try it in a Mai Tai..and now i`m totally addicted...(good business for Roberto..)

Its hard for me not to praise this rum enough!

For anyone who gets this rum..here is the killer Mai Tai:

2oz Silver Seal 15 year demerara
0.5 oz Homemade orgeat
0.5 oz Simple or rock candy syrup
1/4 oz orange curacao
1 oz fresh Lime juice

Shake with ice, strain and serve over crushed ice in a double old fashioned glass, garnish with a sprig of mint, and a cherry.

This Mai Tai packs a punch due to the 100 proof rum.

You're doing exactly what we did when we first got those Silver Seals - go on a Mai Tai bender!!!

The heavy Silver Seal rums are pretty close to the W&N 17. Check out some of the older ones if you get a chance Helena. As I've said before the 28 year old demerara was the closest, but sadly not available anymore

The only older i`ve seen available is the 32 year..but its terribly expensive..are there any others that you know of?
