Plastic Bottles

Does anybody find that the stuff that comes in 50 ml plastic bottles tastes like it was poured from a plastic bottle?

I do as well. My wife and I love camping. On one trip she placed some wine in a plastic container for security from breakage and spillage. The wine did have a distinct plastic taste. I might as well have been licking the container.......

With higher proof spirits I would think the plastic taste would be more pronounced.

The first time tried D'aguiars 10 yr XM, that was from a plastic bottle, but it tasted so good I don't think the plastic was a detriment to the fine rum. Now they export it in glass bottles. WHERE'S THE ROMANCE OF OLD CHEAP RUM. I LIKE THOSE PLASTIC BOTTLES. BRING THEM BACK PLEASE!!!!

I would have to agree I think the "plastic" taste is noticeable. This was very noticeable when I was taking a cruise to Bermuda a few years back and the the cruise line banned taking liquor on board or being able to consume liquor in your state room, so I had get creative to smuggle my stash of decent rums past security on to the boat. One way I did this was to get a large bottle of Pantene Shampoo and emptied it; Pantene worked best because it is a solid creme colored plastic and I could use that for my dark rum. I rinsed the bottle out for several days the week prior to the cruise and then filled it with Coke and let it sit for a couple of days to make sure I got all the "shampoo" flavor out. I then filled the bottle with my Cruzan Diamond and put in my wife toiletry bag. Worked like a charm by the way....the only down side to this was the rum did have a noticeable plastic taste to it. The white rum was easier to smuggle on board....I got a bottle of sparkling water that came in the deep Cobalt blue colored bottles and replaced it with Cruzan Estate white rum....placed it in our "food" bag with a couple of other bottles of actual sparkling water and was good to go.

Bluewave! Did they actually inspect your baggage for contraband liquor on boarding your cruise ship?:eek: What nerve! I can understand a limit based on customs requirements, but not a ban.

I suppose that's why I've always preferred to do my boating on my own boat. I can bring what I want, and drink it "in bed." Hell, I can damn well drink it anywhere I want!

I asked because my 50ml bottle of MG Eclipse tastes like plastic. I bought it to give it a try, but perhaps the packaging is unfair to it.

I can often taste the plastic in Coca-Cola and other beverages that are in plastic bottles. Same goes with homemade juices that have been stored in a cellar (rubber cork). I can taste a slightly "cellary" taste . Beverages are best in glass bottles or metal cans.

Yeap...they inspected all our bags for contraband. They were confiscating bottles of soda that people were trying to smuggle booze in. One guy had a bottle of Pepsi with him and the security guy shook it up and since there was no bubbles figured it was not pepsi and confiscated it. Mine method worked out much better
