Default Boriquan Independence or the 51st State or Bust!

Not to be political, but there are far more Puerto Riquenos living in the states than on that beautiful island. Given the chance to be "FREE", I am sure many would prefer to continue to get their SSI checks as opposed to fending for themselves in a new Third World paradise. So let's pop the cork on that Independence Barrel now before it becomes history!

Default The 5 star

Hey guys!
Brand new here thanks for allowing me in!

But about the 5 star,

I have a friend who lives in florida, he is a native Peurto Rican! All he drinks is the Ron Del Barrilito. He has given me several bottles of the 3 star. But the tells me he knows of the five star. He knows someone who is part of the family. So the story is, as he tells me, the owner makes a five star however if you arent him or his wife, chances of you getting or even seeing the 5 star is impossible. You might as well try your chances with the lotto! And the four star is a little more known however he only makes it for him and his family.

I have never tried the five star but my friend (mentioned above) tells me you can not find a better rum! He tells me that if he is ever able to get his hands on some 4 or 5 star he will save me a shot but I can only imagine!

Thats all I know, if i ever try some ill post to let you know!

On more than one occasion, I have asked the Fernandes family about the rumored Barrilito 5 Star and have been assured several times that there never has been any of their rum bottled with a 5 star label.

That isn't to say that the family doesn't enjoy something that isn't available to anyone else but I don't believe they have bottled such a rum. Will they in the future? Maybe, but it probably won't have 5 stars on the label, but I my crystal ball isn't as good as I wish it was.

If there is a 5 start from this company this would be it:

A 29 year old rum. Sampled at the warehouse.

Here are some other photos

This place has a massive cache of very old rums even a barrel called the freedom barrel that is also pictured. The Barrel is from 1942... so that's 73 years old!

I wonder what they do or have planned for all these old fine rums...

Greetings,

As a just joined new member please take this repsonse in light hearted spirit.
Below--This is part of my introducing first post

***************************

......I discovered this forum in search of the greatest rum love I remember. A rum my friend had returned with from Puerto Rico then on a film making mission when he worked as senior documentary producer for Turner Broadcasting in the mid 1980s.
And It was Ron Barrilito. The 3 Star first and foremost was uncorked and passed to a few who would savor and not quaf it.
Yes I know about the 3 star.

But then my friend unveiled another. He said I knew you'd fully connect to this ...but now you must try this.
Without me seeing the label he poured a double finger measure into a small brandy glass.
A darker cognac ressembling liguid greeting my senses, smoother than the 3 Star, even more complex, velvety finish .. a VSOP Napoleon Brandy of rums I had ever experienced.

He turned the label in view. It read Ron del Barrilito 5 Star -- 5 Stars graced the neck's separate label

I would like very much to elaborate on this. For you may take me to task. Was I dreaming? Had the 3 Star altered my rational consciousness?

I say no. No way. I eventually got to Puerto Rico in the 1990s from my Atlanta home. And I actually purchsed Ron del Barrilito 5 Star and brought back three 750ml bottles. However, I've never seen such again.

Truly I do defer to the moderator's background and close encounters with the Fernandez family. So I must query what I had experienced quite a long while ago. All I can say at this moment is that I'm quite prone to mythical allusions and elixers that bring forth moments bordering epiphanys.

Thus I shall redo my homework and speak directly with my friend who knows so well his beloved Puerto Rico (since the late 1960s) like few if any gringos ever have. He's traveled the backroads and his close in-law family ties have immersed him into the well kept secret locales and haunts.

Hopefully more on all alluded to here later. I'm fortunate that my search for the 5 Star has brought me to y'all.
Whether it exists now..... or ever matters less than maintaining the journey of taste and intrigue in the lands where rums in all their concoctions and forms thrive and will always evolve.

ciao and salud del corazon,
Davey Carlos

This isn't the first story I've read about the Barrilito Five Star but according to the Fernandez family they have never produced a Five Star label. There is a Barbancourt Five Star rum that was very good in the 1980s and 90s.

I'd love to see a photo of one of these bottles.

Like the Unicorns, I don't think the 5 Star bottles made it on the ark.
