I couldn't find any Mexican or Kosher Coke at my usually store today, so I picked up a 12 pack of Jones Pure Cane Cola. It makes a very nice Cuba Libre mixed with Appleton White.

A couple weeks ago in Vegas, my wife and I picked up some samples of new Red Bull Cola. It's an all natural cola product, not an energy drink. It's quite refreshing with a splash of rum!

If you have a Potbelly Sandwich shop nearby, try one of their "Cricket Colas". Technically, it's not theirs, but it's the only place I've seen that serves it. It is a Green Tea Cola, has an interesting taste. Wonder how it would do with rum?

Default ..mixer

..thought I'd chime in on this, though a little late.

My new favourite mixing rum is Barcelo Anejo; they just started stocking in in my local liquor store. I can't bring myself to add mix to the better (read: easier on the palate) rums in my collection.

For mix its one part cola (diet pepsi, coke zero, etc.) and two parts club soda to get the carbonation and cut the sweetness of the cola.

Also, is it just me, or did anyone else find that when in the caribbean the cuba libres taste better. Yeah, I know, maybe its just the setting and joy of being on holidays, but does the cola actually taste better? Is it because its made with sucrose (from sugar cane) down there? Whereas the colas up here are made with fructose. Just my two cents.

Cheers all,

Duff
