Default Is there an "official" rum glass?

I notice that Burr, in his gifted rum website, he had what appeared to be a bottle of Zaya Gran next to three glass filled with rum. I was wondering if that was the "official" rum glass or does something like that even exist? I know in the 30th Anniversary edition for the Zacapa XO it was packaged with similar looking glasses? Perhaps these are just cordial glasses, but I was just curious.

There is no official rum glass just like there is no official whiskey glass. The glass on Gifted Rums website is called a snifter which is often used in rum and whiskey tastings. For some rums and whiskies the snifter is not good becauce it traps the aromas in the glass and if the rum or whiskey is very strong the aromas can feel too strong. Most of the time I use a normal whiskey glass because it doesn't trap the aromas as much and it is a lot easier to drink from it because my nose tends to be in the way when drinking from a small mouthed snifter.

There have been copious discussions on rum glasses here on the forum. The tasting glasses you see on the cover of the Gifted Rums Guide are from Riedel and are specifically made for rum and cognac. They are ideal for a tasting a small amount of spirit. The aromas are concentrated by the shape of the vessel. Swirling the fluid in this glass and holding it up to a light source allows the rum to be observed in terms of clarity, color and viscosity.

For everyday enjoyment of rum, neat or on the rocks, there are numerous varieties of glasses endorsed by rum enthusiasts.

preferably one not made of paper, or plastic, or has holes in the bottom or on the sides.

Other than that, if it holds rum, makes it to my lips without spillage - it's a rum glass.

continuing on the "is there an official"...

For some reason when I see - "The official xxx of xxx" Why is that I keep thinking about NASCAR?

Maybe because they have so many loyal followers and women who love Ricky Rudd and just naturally going to run out and buy Tide Laundry detergent!!!

I know in open wheel "Indy" car racing, Patron is a major sponsor to one driver. Does anyone in Nascar, Formula One or other have a major sponsor that is a Rum maker?

Amen to that....my 'official' rum glass is one I bought in Leavenworth, Washington at a little shop called "Cheesemongers" for $4. It has a heavy base, holds lots, and has a little mouse wearing leiderhosen on it. If I put enough rum in it, the mouse looks likes he is jumping in a pool...

Jmac - isn't Leavenworth great?!!! It's a little slice of Bavarian heaven in, well, a place you wouldn't really expect to find it!

Been to Cheesemongers, and also encountered a HUGE plate of mixed sausages and cheeses. Wonderful place!
