Bob,

Congratulations on the web site. It's a great start and a good resource for rum enthusiasts.

Regarding Cave Rum in Turks And Caicos, is that made by Appleton?

The story about your shelves falling down i the middle of the night and losing all your oldest and most valuable rums made me cry (almost).

Nice to meet you Bob and to see your impressive collection. From the pics on your site, it looks like you miss the valleys back home. I bet you pine for Wales and the British winter.......

Sorry to read of the 2006 incident, here displayed (hopefully with your permission...I will delete it if you are displeased) so my note will have some reference.

The buckling shelves should have been the give-away to the disaster to come. Make sure the next shelves are set in rabbets and are twice as strong as you think will be required.

However early one Sunday morning The Rumelier was awoken by a very loud crashing sound. He jumped out of bed and ran into the living room only to find most of his prized rums had fallen down and broken on the hard tile floor after the shelves had collapsed.
The rum was flowing down into one corner of the room leaving an irrisistable aroma behind it. Broken pieces of glass covered the tile floor. Unfortunately the cheaper least collectable bottles of rum had been on the lower shelves, while all the rare desirable ones had been arranged high up on the shelves for visibility. These were the ones not to survive the fall.

Above pinched from Rumelier's site.

Thanks for the link; a great point of interest! Sorry for your debacle! Lost collections are rarely retrievable.

Great job Bob. It's so refreshing to see the love and passion of another rum enthusiast surface for the whole world to see and understand why we (All of the Ministry of Rummers) do what we do, not for money but love. It's our belief. As I always say...Rum is the true religion.!!!

Its fine most of the time. Living on a small island has it's drawbacks, but the sun does shine about 350 days a year!! It's great if you like the beach and watersports such as fishing, diving, snorkelling, etc. Lots of rums to chose from helps though.
