Default 1 Barrel and 3 Barrel Rum

I just met with the Canadian distributor for One Barrel Rum. He has brought most of the Traveller's line-up into Canada, and gave me a few samples of the 1 Barrel (and promised me some of the 3 Barrel too).

I opened one of my 1 Barrel bottles on my back deck this afternoon and gave it a bit of a trial run. It reminded me of Angostura Royal Oak. A nice mixing rum for Cuba Libres and Daiquiris. It is not overly complex, just a little sweet and goes down nicely in what I call 'back deck' drinks.

I'll have some reviews in a few weeks but I thought some person's might want to know these rums have arrived in Canada.

Hi Chip,
Good to see your still at it. I have the one barrel and the 5 barrel. Both excellant in both taste and price and have heard of a limited 10 year in Belize only. Is this another in the lineup. Let me know what shows up on your door step.
Best wishes and I look forward to your unique rum reviews.

Hi Chip,

I, too, have not heard of the 3 barrel - is it new to the market? I have done some visiting to Belize and have several 1 Barrel, the 5 Barrel and the exclusive 10yr old only available at the Heritage Center outside of Belize City. I completrely agree with your intial assessments - the 1 Barrel is a unique rum, bit rough, but interesting butterscotch flavor - very mixable. The 5B and 10yr are both fantastic rums! (reminds me that I need to revisit them soon!) I'll look forward to your reviews and hearing if the 3B is a new product and what you think of it!

Thanks for the kind words guys (I was on holidays for five days or I would have replied sooner.)

The Traveller's Rep definitely said he had 3 Barrel rather than 5 Barrel. I'll find out next week when the next bottle arrives. As well he has the Classic White and Cristal Parrot Lite (both are white rums), the Kuknat (Coconut) Rum and Lerskaa Vodka.

I will be tasting as much of the line-up as I can over the next several weeks, (even the Vodka).

Cheers!

Come on guys, when was the last time a rep made a mistake on the name of a new product? Actually it happens all the time, chances are it is an odd number and probably a prime number as well. Enjoy the vodka. A number of Caribbean distilleries also make molasses-based vodka. Distill it to over 95% abv and wala, you've got vodka. Filter it a few times and you've got drinkable vodka.

The 3 Barrel Rum Bottle arrived today!

According to the Agent, it is only available in Alberta (and in Belize)! Of course this is not the first time a new rum has hit the market before any information has been posted on the website.

I am told to expect it to be a little more developed than the 1 barrel but not quite as rich and rounded as the 5 Barrel.

As for the Lerskaa Vodka, I will be getting a bottle in a few weeks, I am told it is as good as Grey Goose, but then everyone who has given me a Vodka bottle has said that, some are, but most aren't. Time will tell.

Cheers!

Tasted the 3 Barrel last night,

What a difference a couple more years in the barrel makes. You can taste the oak which makes the rum more complex and drier. It going to be fun reviewing the line-up!
