Getting around the islands can be half the adventure of discovering new rum.

Default Rum in the Bahamas?

Aloha!

Martiki-bird and I will be traveling to Cable Beach, near Nassau, on Providence Island, in The Bahamas, next weekend for about a week.

Any recommendations for great or even decent rum bars or places to buy rum?

We are willing to ferry it to nearby islands.

Thanks and cheers!

Please forgive the bump.

Hey, if you know the Bahamas and you think there's not much interesting there rum-wise, that's worth hearing about as well.

The local rum is Old Nassau which is not so bad.

I know Havana Club is available there but I am not sure if any of the higher end stuff is easily found. The best rum store I found so far was in a high rise hotel/casino near the condos we will be staying at.

Oh, and of course, it goes without saying that any possible Cuban rum purchased on this trip will be consumed on premises. I would love to sample the Barrel Proof, for example.

You can probably get Bacardi Reserva Limitada at Bacardi's shop in Nassau. It was there a few years ago when I was there. Also, if you make it to Freeport, I believe there is a Pusser's restaurant there, where you can get Pussers and other rums.

The Bacardi store on Bay Street is closed now. Looks like the whole building suffered damage from a fire maybe? Anyway, it appears to have moved to humbler quarters near the docks about a block away. I believe it is no longer run by Bacardi.

There was no high end Bacardi on the shelves, but tons of the low to mid range product that we see back in the states. Lots of scarey looking handle size pre-mixed cocktails that I thankfully have not seen in NYC.

They also had, oddly enough, El Dorado 12 and 15 and Zacapa 23 at high prices.
