Default My recent 1st of many Kisses

It was in St Lucia last November at the Food & Rum festival. The sun was beautiful, the sea breeze was blowing, the music was blaring, the food was orgasmic and the women were...well a combination of all of the above, but what crowned the occasion was discovering a hidden gem from Haiti. I felt like Christopher Columbus salivating over the discovery of a uncorrupted Hispanola. I slowly picked up to bottle to find out if I had met this rum before, but I hadn't. After a brief discussion with the over worked guy at the tasting stand, who happened to be the owner of the brand, I kissed the 10 year old. (Not in a paedophilic sense. Remember tropical ageing...she's 30)....Hmmmm Heaven. That was my first and definitely not my last kiss of Berling Rhum Vieux labbe 10 from Haiti.

I'm glad you liked 1919. I do too. Similar to 1824, but a bit less aggressive, I think.

Default Coruba

Tonight is my first time with Coruba. This Jamaican girl has lots of FLAVOR. She is big and dark with scents of leather, fruit, and flowers. She tastes of cacao, musk, and overripe fruit. Not necessarily the best for long sipping contemplative sessions, but this girl would be a great one to take to a party. Big and and bold enough to mix well.

This is the thread I was looking for. Thanks for bringing it up.

Ron Botran Solera. This is a nice rum! In the style of Zacapa 15 (or vice versa), it promises to be really nice with cigars.
Very smooth, with gentle and easy to like leather/tobacco tones, cocoa, very nice balance. I like it alot.

At the recent Gifted Rums of Guatemala tasting event, some stated a preference for Botran Solera 1893 over the popular cousins -- Zacapa 15, 23 and XO.

Tonight I opened that bottle of Pyrat XO Reserve I found last night for $16.99, to which I'm still giggling about the price.

Being a rookie at rums, and can't really identify past the predominant flavor or two, what I found in this rum: an aroma that began to fill the kitchen after I pulled the cork from the bottle and let sit for a few minutes.

Tasted extremely sweet and felt "sticky". Relatively smooth with a light warm burn and flavor notes that I picked up smacked me in the face of only two things (and transported me back in time to when I was 15 years old for one of them)! Funny how smells and tastes can be such defining memories and moments for us.

The first "taste" is the sticky sweet orange I have heard referred to, but what then overpowers this (at least to my tastebuds) is a very definite and strong taste of chewing tobacco - not just any, but RJ Gold, which I first had when I was 15.

First sip of this rum transported me back through time for a few minutes... and the taste of it lingers for a long while.

Perhaps Hank could post a list of the fine agricole rums that were tasted this last Monday. They were all first kisses for me!
