Explains why Cruzan is so relatively cheap I suppose.

I doubt that this will "ruin the rum industry" though. Unless there's alot more advertising for Cruzan/Bacardi and such on the back of this, or an insane reduction of price (Cruzan for $5.99 anyone?) the people who enjoy other nations' rums will continue to drink them.

Ultimately, this should not affect aged rum a whole lot. White or spiced rum importers will have harder competition from these giants (Bacardi, Cruzan/Beam) but not a whole lot of great old rum comes out of these islands.

I would in some ways expect this to affect the vodka/budget liquor markets more than anybody as this will enhance the ability of white rum to compete on price more.
