Default Any drinks using molasses?

Hey anybody have any drinks using molasses? The idea came to me when I was in the grocery store in the baking isle looking at the molasses which would normally be used for xmas cookies. I also know that in cuba its popular to drink rum with honey (canchanchara) or fresh pressed sugar juice. Maybe use molasses instead of brown sugar in grog?

You're on the right track RonJames. I wouldn't use molasses with a really good rum, but it has taken the edge off of a few coarse cousins that made their way onto my boat.

I would suggest, however, dipping your finger in it before putting molasses in a cocktail. You can always add more, but you can't take it out of a drink.

And like Brylcreem, a little dab'll do ya.

I've used molasses in Old Fashioneds, but as Ed points out, a little goes a LONG way.

IMO you have to treat molasses like honey - dilute it a bit. Most cocktails with honey in them are actually using honey syrup where the honey has been diluted with water. I tend to do the same with molasses to keep it from destroying all other flavors in a drink.

Thanks guys, I've got one more thing to pick up at the grocery store. I've often wondered as Im buying tons of limes, sugar cane soda, ginger beer, sugar, coco lopez, and chocolate for the sippers, if the cashier realizes what a lush I really am. The cashiers at grocery stores don't seem to have that knowing twinkle in there eyes that the ones at the liquor store do. You know, that look that says its gonna be a good night.
