Vanilla was discovered in Mexico, and then transplanted elsewhere.

Same goes for Peppers. . . (actually The Americas, but. . .)

You have to love Mexico.

There are Madagascar Vanilla Beans and there are Tahitian vanilla beans, and they come from other places too. I've not heard of them as coming from the "Cradle of Mexico" but then again, I'll admit there are far more things that I don't know than I do know!

Sailor Jerry - definite cherry taste to me, but you know, now that you say it, there is a little "hidden" vanilla in it too. I think I find vanilla to be the one taste that comes through in a lot of alcohol that is supposed to have a flavor - American Bourbons and Rums of all kinds are high on that list.

That is where they came from... The Cradle of Mexico.
Just like sugarcane in Papua New Guinea -- it has to start somewhere.

I second that! The Angostura 1919 is a lovely rum with a sweet vanilla flavour. It's not too expensive either.

Another rum with a definite vanilla flavour is the Santa Teresa Selecto, although it can be a little too sweet for some people. I think they have recently changed the bottle and label design (I have the old grenade/pineapple-shaped one), but I'm not sure if the rum has been altered in the new bottling.

Question Bacardi Vanilla Rum

A couple of months ago my wife and I were on a mediterranean cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines and they had Bacardi Vanilla Rum at the Bars. They say they get it directly from the Factory. I could have boughten a bottle for $6.50 per shot and at 22 shots per bottle, well, you do the math.

Another excellent vanilla rum is La Pinta Punch Vanille from St. Bart's.

Does anyone have any recommendations for something very similar? I have yet to find a vanilla rum that was what I'm looking for.

you might want to try putting a few split vanilla beans in regular bottle of white rum.....

and to be specific about vanilla beans themselves..

Tahitian vanilla beans will give you a softer creamer more floral vanilla scent and flavor

Madagascar vanilla beans will give a more earthy robust vanilla flavor and scent.
