It's a diffuser and its designed to stop bars (or shops I guess) from re-filling old bottles with inferior product and selling it a premium.

Whether you get one in your bottle or not very much depends on the market the bottle was originally marketed for (or which market the producer sells most product to).

Okay, thanks.

I tried to smash it out of a bottle of their Añejo, but that just made a mess. I'll leave it in and try to put up with it.

Defusers have been installed under the caps for several years in the U.S. The first one didn't defuse me as much as confused me... but I learned to accept them as a method to conserve my pours and aerate my choice.

Last evening's Medellin Gran Reserva, 12yr cascaded through one as smooth as greased-algae... but it didn't effectively conserve my pour.

I'm glad I have encountered few bottles (about four this year out of 100 or so ) with the regulator installed in NY.

It prevents an extra long straw from being put in the bottle and makes it harder when just taking straight swigs from the bottle.

Funny. They come in bottles of soy sauce too. BIG surprise if you go to dash some on yer sushi and the doodad is missing!

Its an anti tampering device that Havana Club installs on their product. Liquids can flow out but not in because of a glass marble inside. I busted it out of a couple of empty bottles when I needed the bottle for something else at the time. I used the pointy end of a can punch and broke out the brittle plastic middle part. Removed that glass marble and then pried out the rest of the plastic like a cork. Impossible to do without messing up the contents if there's anything in the bottle.
