Default Mt. Gay Eclipse Black 50% a/v

Mount Gay has announced the release of the new Mount Gay Eclipse Black. A blend of two to seven year old predominantly copper pot double distilled rum.

This has replaced the Sugar Cane Brandy and is supposed to fit between the Eclipse and the Extra Old.

I've heard rumors that Mount Gay Sugar Cane Rum was going to be discontinued and I have been in denial of that rumor.
I hope Mount Gay Black is as good as it looks in the picture.

I just received my bottle of Mount Gay Eclipse Black from Remy Martin. It looks great, can't wait to crack it open tonight and give it a taste. I will report back with the findings later!!

"A selection of single distilled rums aged from 2 to 7 years old in charred oak barrels that impart toasted and woody notes and the addition of a higher proportion of double distilled rums in traditional pot still aged up to 7 years that bring exceptional rum character.
Released at 100 proof (50% Alc. Vol) in order to enhance the wonderful palette of aromas and the superb intensity of the blend."

Yet another rum I will need to stock up on should it happen. I enjoy it above all the MGs in that price range. It makes a superior Daiquiri in my opinion.

Gotta agree on the MG sugar cane...it will be missed.

But, I am looking forward to the Black.

Ed - perhaps you should make the MG Sugar Cane the ROTM for February. Let's send it out with a bang!!!

Would love to see that here in BC. I personally find higher ABV runs to be more 'traditional' and flavourful.

Just had a training session with our Mount Gay Rep. last night. The Eclipse Black will be placed between the Eclipse and the Extra Old. About 40% more cost wise than the Eclipse. Not really a true sipper, more of a mixer in my opinion. Fairly spicy, works well with ginger ale.

Mt Gay Black is on the Michigan and Ohio price lists for July. Both at $24.95, I'll be picking up a bottle as soon as I see it.
