Default Brugal Anejo - What'd You Think

I am from New Orleans and saw, for the first time this weekend, a rum brand called Brugal on the shelves here. I have never heard of Brugal before and thought to try it - but with my budget crimped back, I tried something safe (something already tried and enjoyed) instead. I have been thinking since that I should have taken the chance...

Has anyone tried Brugal and, if so, what did you think? Is it worth a try?

Thanks.

Brugal from the Dominican Republic is a dominant player in that Country's production. Their Anejo has a distinct flavor profile that lends itself more to mixing than sipping in my opinion.

That being said, I would not deny myself the chance to purchase a bottle.

One does not know how the shoe will fit until one tries it on...as my better half likes to say.

This one I've discovered recently. There's a bit of bite, that is smoothed by an ice cube, or two(depending on your committed dosage), but it's the FLAVOR that sets it apart. I like it. I've suffered through bottles of Rhum Barbancourt and Bacardi 8 since then and I am planning a second bottle. I'd really like to try one of their older blends. I bet it gets even better.

Some of D.C.'s best craft bartenders really like using Brugal Aсejo in their cocktails, and it isn't difficult to see why, as it is both flavorful and reasonably priced (around $17)

A very good friend of mine who lives 1/2 the year in the D.R. mixes brugal with cranberry. sounds nasty, but it surprisingly smooth

Any of the Brugal line are definitely worth a try!

For me it's one of the best mixers I've tried.

If you're looking for something to sip (and if you can find it!) pick up the Brugal Extra Vieijo (Extra Old). Very smooth...

Thanks - I'm going to give it a try. Its always good to try something new and it sounds like Brugal is a good mixer if not more.

I wouldn't say the Brugal Aсejo is anything more than a good mixer, although the Extra Viejo has been said by some to make a reasonable sipper. As for me though, I'd only mix them.

If I could get my hands on a bottle of Brugal Siglo de Oro, now that would be different!

To each his own I suppose, though I do agree with you about the Siglo de Oro. I enjoy something smooth and it's supposed to be that much more than the Extra Vieijo! I'm picking one up next time I'm in the Dominican Republic.
