I enjoy watching the movie The Firm. I especially like the scene with Gene Hackman and Jeanne Tripplehorn sipping Havana Club 7 year old. 993TFM_Jeanne_Tripplehorn_037.jpg

The director, the late Sydney Pollack, also directed the excellent movie Havana. The Havana Club scene in The Firm may have been an attempt to criticize the embargo by showing sophisticated Americans enjoying a Cuban luxury. It may also have been a rally of sorts by some Hollywood types against the embargo.
However, do we explicitly know it was the 7-year-old? I can't remember if it was mentioned. And, let's not forget that they're actors and were probably just drinking colored water. :-)
Nevertheless, a decent rum, and one of the few available here.

In the film Hackman mentioned Havana Club several times. I'm guessing it was the 7 yr.
"were probably drinking over proof all day" lol. I would have have had that in my contract!

For legal (but, actually, political) reasons, Cuban trademarks couldn't (still can't???) be used in the US. That's why Mordecai Richler's Barney's Version had to use a different cover when it was published in America. The producers of The Firm probably got away with mentioning Havana Club because Bacardi had the rights to the name in the US for a long time, so they could simply say the movie was referring to that and not the Cuban one. Well, that's my suspicion anyway.
