Afternoon Rum Tasting in Chicago

I happened to see a tweet from a friend about a Caribbean Rum tasting this afternoon at Drinks over Dearborn and was lucky enough to be in Chicago and have a couple of hours so I headed downtown.
The Don Q rums were impressive, but I also noticed that Appleton Special seemed to be a bit heavier than I remembered it to be.

After the tasting I had a chance to spend some time with Kyle McHugh, the owner. One of the things we discussed was having a Ministry of Rum forum get together and rum tasting in April. If you're interested let me know.

I've also volunteered to do a rum course for Kyle's spirits classes.

And I saw a bottle of Cartavio 5 year old rum. This is the first bottle I've seen since Cartavio changed importers and began bottling their rums in Peru at the distillery. A few weeks ago Kyle tasted through the Cartavio portfolio and chose the 5 year old as the best rum and value from Cartavio.

If the get together is in Chicago Im definately interested, just depends on my hospital schedule and whether or not Im in Mexico at the time. Could be fun!
