Default Brinley Gold Coconut Rum

OK - I'm probably "breaking form" here, as I know there is a thread on this page pertaining to coconut rum (and in fact, I was the last person to post to it - talking about Cruzan flavored rums).

But - I just had to shout from the mountain tops on this one! I just now opened for the very first time my new bottle of Brinley Gold Coconut rum (the rum I made a special pilgrimage to the St Louis area just to get this rum).

It does not disappoint! I know several of you are "purists" but I unashamedly enjoy mixing my rums, having a foo foo drink now and again, and I enjoy the liberal use of Sailor Jerry (he's a good friend to have).

So, I do enjoy my flavored rums, and coconut is one of my favorites. Unitl now, Cruzan held that top spot, but I had heard of the myth, lore and legend of Brinley Gold and boys and girls - this is the pinnacle of flavored coconut rum!

I cannot wait to get my hands on a bottle of their coffee flavored rum!!!

The outlet is Saint Louis area has the coconut and vanilla only - I'll go mail order on the coffee if I have to, as this BG Coconut Rum is simply delicious.

You can sip it or mix it, either way, enjoyable. 36 A.B.V./72 proof, so it's stronger than Cruzan which is 27 or 27-1/2% ABV.

It's like a Luau in a cup.

If you like their coconut rum you owe it to yourself to try their mango rum. I also saw they make a lime rum, which I am sure is equally as good based on how good their other flavored rums are.

We've only tasted the mango, but can second bluewave6 on the recommendation. It has a good, true flavor, better than most of the mangoes we try. We'd already planned to get some of the coffee and vanilla, but coconut sounds good too.

I'll have to say I have as well heard positive things about the mango. Sounds juicy and succulent just thinking about it.

Brinleys definitely has "found its groove" in flavored rums. I'll probably grab the vanilla next time I am in Saint Louis. I'll then have a little comparison between it, Whalers Vanille and Cruzan Vanilla.

Coffee, Mango, Lime... I'm just going to have to get them all sooner or later.

The Vanilla is equally fantastic - such a good, non-chemicaly vanilla flavor that I've been able to use it as a substitute where small quantities of (ridiculously expensive) vanilla liqueur (Navan, for example) is called for.

Mango is also grand, coffee is ok, never seen lime (let us know if you or anyone else tries/has tried that one)

Cheers!
PS - What "foo foo" drinks have you made with the Coconut thus far?

Nice call! I was in the store not long ago and took a long long look at Navan. $40-$45 a bottle I believe! If Brinley's Vanilla can be a decent sub here, that would be great!

Maybe you could find Meukow Vanilla Cognac - more reasonablly priced than the Navan. Usually around $27 - $32 USD vs the $40-$45 for Navan.

(But I'm liking the idea of going with Brinley's Vanilla Rum at $20!

Right at this moment I'm enjoying about five ounces of R.W. Knudsen "Mango Fandango" Spritzer with about 2 ounces of Brinley's Coconut rum... and it is Fantastic!!!!

Way to kick off Memorial Day Weekend!

I didn't know Navan was that expensive. Flavored rum sounds like a better value again, it's not flavored cognac, but my guess is the cognac that goes into Navan isn't aged too long.
