Default New Year's cocktail

Last year I served a cocktail originally made with cognac but you've probably already guessed that I substituted aged rum, Santa Teresa 1796 for the cognac and add a 1/4 tsp of sugar cane syrup.

Several people told me they didn't drink rum so I asked if they would like it served with cognac instead. Once the first person tried this drink with rum no one asked for cognac again, which was a good thing.

All the best on your New Year's Celebration. I wish I was in the islands, but they'll be waiting for me, and you.

When I dream up a better job, I'm going to take it. In the meantime, the research continues.

Tonight I plan on having a few Old Cubans, and possibly end the year with an appropriate (albeit admittedly non-rum drink) Last Word.

Sadly this New Year's Eve will be 100% dry as I spend it with my parents but thats a perfectly acceptable trade off for the next few hours When I get home around 1:30am Eastern....well, I can pretty much guarantee rum in some form or another will welcome 2010
