Introduction
Howdy Hi - Been checking out Rum sites off and on since the beginning of the year and liked what I saw here. I "WAS" never much of a spirits drinker, mixed or otherwise... pretty much just into craft beers (I brew my own too) and fine wines until a friend insisted I try a top shelf rum with him straight up. He likes chasing his rum with Speckled Hen or Hen's Tooth beer (both English) and I have to admit, the combination works pretty well. Flor de Cana Reserve is his Go-To-Rum of choice, but he only had a bottle of Sea Wynde to offer me at the time. I liked it,... INITIALLY. Seemed somewhat smooth, woody and a little fruity. It inspired me to investigate further and I did a little research here and there on the web. Decided to give Cruzan Single Barrel and Pyrat XO a try, seeing as they were both on sale at the time. Liked them both and took them to compare against my friend's Sea Wynde. I'm not sure what happened to my palate, but the Sea Wynde delivered a completely different experience. Nasty, and barely palatable, leaving me fairly confused. Subsequent tastings confirmed Sea Wynde's unpalatability. But the Cruzan and Pyrat disappeared rather quickly thereafter and I moved on to try Vizcaya VXOP when I finally hunted down a bottle..... Zowie! @ $38, it's at the high end of what I'm willing to pay, but it has consistantly delivered a completely satisfying and pleasurable experience. Unfortunately, my girlfriend started stealing a sip here and there and has also become a Rum convert. It has become increasingly harder and expensive to keep it in stock. Regardless, I look forward to joining the Ministry of Rum community and expanding my Rum knowledge base.
Keep your nose in the wind and your eyes upon the skyline.

Re: Introduction
Welcome to the forums you seem to have tasted that rum is a very diverse spirit. Enjoy the voyage of discovery.

So you've had a similar experience with Sea Wynde? I've given it several chances since my first tasting, but it just ain't workin' for me. I at least have to credit it for sparking my interest in sipping rums though,..... all of which have been more consistantly pleasant so far.

It is a good one. So many beers, so little time.
