Facebook Like links
I'd like to get the members take on Facebook Like buttons. On the surface this looks like a good idea. I'm also thinking about letting members of this forum who are logged in to Facebook be automatically logged in to this site. My concern is spam and security of this database, but it looks like that shouldn't be a problem, though I do know Facebook pages have been hacked in the past.
So what do you think?

Personally, I have pretty much a hate/hate relationship with Facebook. I find it annoying, time consuming (to no real good purpose), and completely lacking in basic respect for people in general and for their privacy and intellectual property in particular.
Having said that, I know when I'm whipped. Facebook is here to stay.
(Don't even get me started on Google!)

I wouldn't do it, but if that's what others want, ok by me.
Facebook is becoming the Kudzu of the web and while I see some positives, I also see a lot of people diving in without looking at what fb does with their info and the info they mine from their friends. Their habit of constantly changing their privacy/user protocols bothers me because "no don't give out my info to 3rd parties" doesn't seem to mean no to them.
The only fb feature I'd like to see in forum and bulletin boards is a like button. It's not a bad way to comment when you don't have anything to add, but you'd like to acknowledge someone else's thread/comment.

I completely agree with both Arctic Wolf and jjwest. Facebook is here to stay, at least for now. And while they have proven themselves to be less than prudent with the information they collect, I'm of the opinion that if you're logged in to Facebook and you click a Like button that you are giving them permission to collect your likes and publish them for their purpose. And if you want to share that information with facebook and their community that is up to you.
I'm not going to pursue, for the moment, a Facebook enabled login for this site. I deal with enough administration for bogus registrations without adding a whole new dimension to the administration challenges for this site.
Thanks as always for the feedback.

Sorry to disappoint you young, but Flash is probably the last thing I'll add to this site. There are a lot of problems with flash that just get in the way of getting the information to visitors. I for one HATE waiting for flash to load and holding up the rest of a page. On the other hand, if a page is well-designed graphics don't hold up a page loading other information and then loading the graphics.

Ed - I'd like to see a feature on this site that would allow me to press a button to get Beyonce to pour me lap shots of a fine Bajan rum.
(I'm hitting my Facebook "like" button)

I am a 20 something, and although I have a FB page (only because I had it in college when it first came out), I (almost) never use it. It is actually a joke among my friends because they will talk about something they posted, and I won't know about it until they tell me (if we are hanging out or at the bar, etc.). Then, usually I will log on to see what they are talking about.
So I ask actually two questions: 1. Why do you need FB? 2. I have only been on this site for a month maybe, but why are people asking for flash? Nothing on the site would really benefit from it.
Of course, I really don't care (that's my vote). If that's what the people want, then fine.
Just some thoughts.
Cheers.

I use Facebook to connect with bartenders all over the world. I don't use it to promote events nearly as much as I should.
As for finding me, all of my friends, or those who want to find me, know that an email using the link at the bottom of almost every page on this site will find me faster than facebook, twitter or anything short of a phone call.
just Google RUM.
